The Devil's Lair: Last Winter Installment

Last day at Diablo for the winter. I will return in the summer to get really strong.

Box Squat: 155x2x12
185x2
205x2
225x1

I need to:
-Spread the floor
-Come down faster, but under control
-Drive through the hips off of the box

All of that considered, I felt like I'm coming along pretty well. I'm actually using my hips and hamstrings to squat (they're weak, so that's why the numbers suck right now) and if I really bust ass I could be squatting decent numbers in February.

Deadlift against light bands: 225x1
275x1x5

These weren't too pretty after the squats (my hips were shot to hell). Still, my DL is getting a lot better I think.

During the squats and afterwards, Ted was talking to me and the other new guy about weight gain. He wants me to gain at least 3 lbs a week until I hit 220 (for the February meet), and then get up to 240 before I return to Diablo in June. Then over the summer I will get up to 260. I need to make these goals, as I have heard that the price of failure is not pretty.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, but how does Ted expect you to gain 3 pounds per week and not expect that to be 90% fat? And 60 pounds in what, 9 months by the end of summer? I understand his rationale for you getting bigger but not for you doing it so fast. Why does he think you need to get so big so fast? And how do you plan on accomplishing this?

I do not know why he wants me to get so big so fast. I realize that a good portion of it will be fat (at least 50% for 3lbs a week), but it has worked quite successfully with other lifters. About half of the people lifting at Diablo came in weaker and skinnier than I am now. After 9 months to a year of training with Ted they are squatting and pulling 500-600lbs as well as putting on 50lbs of bodyweight.

And besides, It's only the first 15lbs that need to be rapid. The rest I have a few months to add on. When you break it down it's 55lbs in 9 months - 6 lbs a month.

Moar posting - I keep forgetting stuff.

I plan on accomplishing this via the dining halls.

If I have 3 massive (1250+ calories) meals in the dining halls plus 2-3 large snacks between meals, I can get in that 5000-5500 calories needed for rapid gains.

Don't expect 5000-5500 to give you 3 # / week. I ate 6000 for months and struggled up to 220. But I have a very high metabolism.

Also, unless you've started taking steroids, it is unreasonable to expect more than 1# / month of actual lean body mass gains. So your "50% fat" is extremely optimistic.

Remember that, as John Berardi often explains, as you eat more food your metabolism will catch up with it. That's not necessarily bad since it means your body is shifting away from fat storage, but it also means that as you eat more and get bigger you'll need to increase calories further to gain mass. You'll need to adjust calories up at least every month most likely.

To be honest, if you want to GFH (Get Fucking Huge) read what Dave Tate did to do it. Especially the Oreo Cookie stuff, which is hilarious. You'll reach a wall and the only way through is McDonald's and everything on the Hostess line. Seriously though, hit Elitefts and read what they say about gaining weight.

Good luck.
