8/16 Squat

Squat: 135x6
185x5
205x5
225x3
245x3
275x1
295xFail

Good Morning: 65x10x5

Ab Wheel: 10x3

I made the mistake of lifting too early this morning. My back and knees felt like crap, and I tried to work through it, but to no avail. I hate to say it, but I may need to back off on the squatting and such for a few more weeks, maybe until the end of summer, even, just to let my back heal. Otherwise I'll be doing a bench-only meet come November haha.

Dave, what are your reccommendations for non-low back intensive leg work? I know you screw up your spine on a regular basis, so I trust your experience.

Just curious, are you still trying to relentlessly gain weight?

No, since I am not at Diablo any more I just eat what I feel like, and have actually stayed at about 215 pretty consistently. I like it.

the four key non-lower back leg exercises are:
front squats, lunges, belt squats, and leg press.

aside from that, do hyperextension if you can to work the muscle for active recovery. If there's any pain, stop, but otherwise, try for very high reps.

Do you have access to an exercise ball?

Yes, I have plenty of exercise balls and foam rollers at my gym. As well as bosu balls and the like.
