What exacty does "Rippetoe-Style" mean?

The Standing Overhead Press as defined in Starting Strength.

1. Unrack bar from chest height
2. Get slightly wider than shoulder stance
3. Press
4. Push your body forward under the bar so it is over the top of your head at lockout
5. Bring back to start position
6. Pause and take another breath to make sure every rep is concentric (no bouncy-bouncy)

Important points:
- NO LAYBACK (no turning it into a standing incline bench)
- Concentric reps
- End with bar over your head, not in front of it

It's a no-bullshit whole-body movement, since your abs and obliques have to stabilize the weight/keep your torso upright.

Your abs have to work pretty hard to do a standing bench press too.

Sure, but I'm not trying to do an Olympic-style press, Jake ;)

OOOOOOOOOH BUUUUURN

Just saying. I don't like that people don't like the Olympic press or bending over backwards to make the lift (provided you've trained that way and are strong enough to bend like that). Pet peeve.
